【摘要】:TheproceduresdescribedinSections7-9areprimarilyintendedfor(butnotlimitedto)fieldjoiningofpolyethylene(PE)pipeandfittings,usingsuitableequipmentandappropriateenvironmentalcontrolprocedures.Whenproperlyimplemented,strongpressure/leak-tightjointsareproduced.Whenthesejointsaredestructivelytested,thefailureoccursoutsidethefusionjoinedarea.Meltcharacteristics,averagemolecularweightandmolecularweightdistributionareinfluentialfactorsinestablishingsuitablefusionparameters;therefore,considerthemanufacturer’instructionsintheuseordevelopmentofaspecificfusionprocedure.SeeAnnexA1.Thesocketfusion,buttfusion,andsaddlefusionproceduresinthispracticearesuitableforjoiningPEgaspipeandfittings,PEwaterpipeandfittings,andPEgeneralpurposepipesandfittingsmadetoPEproductspecificationsfromorganizationssuchasASTM,AWWA,API,andISOthatareusedinpressure,lowpressureandnon-pressureapplications.Forgasapplications,qualificationoftheprocedurebytestingjointsmadeusingtheprocedureinaccordancewithregulationsfromtheauthorityhavingjurisdictionarerequired.1.1Thispracticedescribesproceduresformakingjointswithpolyethylene(PE)pipeandfittingsbymeansofheatfusionjoiningin,butnotlimitedto,afieldenvironment.Othersuitableheatfusionjoiningproceduresareavailablefromvarioussourcesincludingpipeandfittingmanufacturers.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallpossibleheatfusionjoiningprocedures,ortoprecludetheuseofqualifiedproceduresdevelopedbyotherpartiesthathavebeenprovedtoproducereliableheatfusionjoints.1.2Theparametersandproceduresareapplicableonlytojoiningpolyethylenepipeandfittingsofrelatedpolymerchemistry.TheyareintendedforPEfuelgaspipeperSpecificationD2513andPEpotablewater,sewerandindustrialpipemanufacturedperSpecificationF714,SpecificationD3035,andAWWAC901andC906.Consultwiththepipemanufacturerstomakesuretheyapprovethisprocedureforthepipetobejoined(seeAppendixX1).Note1InformationaboutpolyethylenepipeandfittingsthathaverelatedpolymerchemistryispresentedinPlasticsPipeInstitute(PPI)TR-33andTR-41.1.3PartsthatarewithinthedimensionaltolerancesgiveninpresentASTMspecificationsarerequiredtoproducesoundjointsbetweenpolyethylenepipeandfittingswhenusingthejoiningtechniquesdescribedinthispractice.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thetextofthispracticereferencesnotes,footnotes,andappendixeswhichprovideexplanatorymaterial.Thesenotesandfootnotes(excludingthoseintablesandfigures)shallnotbeconsideredasrequirementsofthepractice.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
